Potential issues during use

A handful of applications may need a small tweak to work fully with DaDesktop

Issues during Fresh Start cloning and fixes available

Most applications behave entirely normally when set up in the Fresh Start machine for use with DaDesktop (DD). However, due to the cloning process, one or two applications don't function as expected and require a few extra steps to operate properly.

• Oracle Database Server - You'll need to alter the hostname from the duplicated one to 127.0.0.1
• Hyper-V server - Hyper-V runs into bother with duplicate MAC addresses when the External switch is enabled, once cloned from the FreshStart machine
• Google Chrome - On cloned machines, Chrome might not launch correctly because of a linked profile tied to the Fresh Start machine, particularly if the latter wasn't fully shut down during cloning
• WSL - Windows System for Linux - During testing, we've observed that DaDesktop machines with a WSL installation aren't portable; moving a DD machine that includes WSL to another DD server stops it from booting successfully. The precise cause is unknown, but we suspect Windows makes some assumption about the hardware it's installed on, and shifting to different hardware triggers a fault. As WSL is seldom employed for training (Linux is typically used directly), this hasn't yet been fully explored
• Issues where a trial software licence uses the MAC address to track the licence - Here, the licence was linked to a MAC address, so when the machine was cloned, it seemed the licence had already been activated and used up.
• Applications that require licences may need to be added after FreshStart has been cloned.
   

Other Issues that may occur when using DaDesktop

• Very slow VirtualBox seen when using Hyper-V and VirtualBox (This happens not only with DaDesktop)

  Problem: Extremely sluggish VirtualBox on Windows Machines can make delivering a course nearly impossible, but the fix is wonderfully straightforward:-
  Solution 1: Uninstall Hyper-V Virtualisation in Windows:

  Solution 2: Ensure the workaround with Hyper-V Server detailed above is applied; otherwise, duplicate MAC addresses causing slow machine performance, booting issues, and other odd behaviour will crop up.

• Unable to type certain characters ie Apostrophes / Quotation Marks, Inverted Commas, into DaDesktop machine.
