Creating Standalone Desktops

To create a Standalone Desktop:

1. Select 'Standalones' from the top menu.
2. Click 'Create New Standalone'.
3. A dialogue box will appear, as shown below.

Here's what each field means:

• GPU Model
  Pick a GPU and type, if needed. Ticking the 'Display GPU enabled servers' checkbox will only show servers with GPUs available.
• Datacentre / Server
  Choose the datacentre region and server nearest your location.
• OS to clone from
  Various operating systems are available.
  
  
  
  If a template is labelled 'Copy Required', it will need to be copied to that server before use. Usually, only Windows OS templates may attract extra charges.
• Include Custom, RC, and Old Versions
  DaDesktop updates OS templates regularly, but if you encounter any trouble with the latest version, you might try an older one.
   
• Memory
  The memory limit for each desktop. Remember, you're constrained by the server's resources by default. Different servers have varying memory caps. To raise these limits, get in touch through Support Chat.
• Label
  Enter an alias if you'd like a simpler label for your standalone.
   

OS Template to Clone from

There are several choices when picking the operating system template to clone. You can go with Windows or a variety of Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, Almalinux, etc.

A pre-built template, typically marked with a version number like V51 (for example), can be used.

Alternatively, we also offer the option to build fully up-to-date Linux templates. The 'Build New' Linux templates rely on a different build process, where the Linux sources are paired with a script that applies the necessary DaDesktop customisations. This ensures the template is always current, secure, and simpler to deploy and maintain.

Building OS Template

After choosing the template you need, the pop-up below will appear.

Click 'Start Building'

The standalone will now be built for you. Note that the build process may take more than 30 seconds; if it seems to have stalled, just wait a bit longer.

 

 

Built template now available

Once the template is built, you can adjust options as needed, then click 'Save and Create Desktop'.

Your Standalone is now being created; this usually takes just a few moments, far less than building the template itself.

Your new Standalone is ready. In the example below, it's called 'julian-6iqm', though you could have given it a more descriptive label if you preferred.

Click 'Connect' to start and connect to the Standalone machine.
