Copying Files from a Host Machine into DaDesktop

A frequently requested addition is the ability to copy files from a trainer’s own laptop or desktop straight into the DaDesktop machine. These files might be presentations, installation ISOs for a nested virtualisation system to run multiple servers and desktops, or simply general files needed for a particular training application.

The team has introduced a straightforward, user-friendly file transfer feature in our latest Windows 10 and most Linux templates. You can now drag and drop files directly from the host machine (i.e. your own laptop or desktop) into DaDesktop.

At present, you can only transfer one file at a time. However, if you need to copy over several files, you can simply create a zip archive and drag and drop that across. The transfer uses chunking to send large files efficiently, and it works best with a fast fibre internet connection. Any folders within the archive, e.g. a zip file, are preserved.
  

Uploaded Files


For Linux templates, there isn’t yet a desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder as there is on Windows. Instead, the files can be found at:-

/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop

OS Templates that do not have this feature enabled (as yet)
