DaDesktop is software that doesn’t fit neatly into any existing category. Sometimes it’s simpler to describe what it isn’t, and how it differs, than to define what it is.
Online Conference
Is DaDesktop an online conferencing tool like Zoom or Teams?
Typically, you’d need to use Zoom, Teams, Skype, or WeChat alongside DaDesktop.
DaDesktop may incorporate built-in conferencing in the future, but that’s not a priority.
What similarities exist between, say, Zoom and DaDesktop?
Both offer basic chat functionality.
Public Cloud
Is DaDesktop comparable to public cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or Aliyun?
Public cloud, or cloud computing, is designed for hosting applications. DaDesktop, on the other hand, is built for people to access remote desktops.
What do AWS and DaDesktop have in common?
From a user’s point of view, there aren’t many similarities. Both let you use a remote machine and run software on it. AWS EC2 is aimed at system administrators, while DaDesktop is designed for training participants, trainers, course coordinators, and management.
Some organisations still rely on AWS or other cloud platforms for delivering remote courses. However, typical public cloud solutions tend to be more costly, slower, and less convenient than DaDesktop. DaDesktop is purpose-built for course delivery, not general-purpose computing.
Learning Management System (LMS)
Is DaDesktop similar to learning management systems like Moodle, Rise Up, Open edX, or others?
An LMS typically focuses on supporting education, such as university courses, or is built for online learning. DaDesktop, at present, is created for instructor-led corporate training. The target audience includes corporate employees, government staff, and so on. It isn’t specifically designed for school or university students.
DaDesktop centres on instructor-led course delivery, with the trainer present throughout.
What similarities are there between an LMS and DaDesktop?
DaDesktop includes a range of features that overlap with, and often surpass, those of an LMS.
With DaDesktop, a course administrator can enrol learners, monitor attendance, assess engagement, verify whether students are connecting, and even record their screens during the session.
It accomplishes much of this automatically. For instance, a trainer no longer needs to manually check attendance, as the system logs the data. DaDesktop can capture a user’s location, connection duration, which exercises they completed, which they skipped, and so on.
Participants who missed the course can watch recordings and then practise in exactly the same environment that was used during the live session.
